‘Casting Off‘ appears like the typical crocheted ‘granny square’ rug made from left over bits of wool is something we are all cosy and comfortable with, just like our relationship with plastic, particularly single-use plastics. However, my colourful Casting Off may appear comfy or even fluffy from a distance, but when you get close it is prickly, symbolising the continuing conundrum we all share about what to do with plastics at the end of their life.
Great news Warwick Regional Gallery has received financial assistance from the Queensland Government through the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments’ to take me down to Warwick to do a residency and public artwork for their Jumpers & Jazz in July in Festival this July. It will be loads of fun and hard work and I look forward to some cold weather. More info on the festival at: www.jumpersandjazz.com or www.warwickartgallery.com.au
