I am thrilled to announce that I was selected among 2 other artists (Sandi Hook and Jenny Mulcahy) for a new At Home Artist In Residence (AHAIR) program. I owe a huge thanks to Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts and NQ RASN for funding and organizing this. I created new work from my home studios for two weeks during June.
Artist Statement – Waiting for go
Waking me at night was a list of COVID-19 related words, I wrote them down. I was not sure why, but I wanted to utilise these into an artwork about this current time. Perhaps I was trying to find order among the disorder in current lives. My choice of medium was slices of emerald green anodised aluminium waste from a JCU building, all slightly different extrusions and shapes and combine this with jewellery materials like silver and titanium to tell a story of our time. The artwork echoes my view of what is going on the world today and our individual capacity to cope at a time of crisis.
The AHAIR program is presented in partnership with the NQ Regional Arts Services Network – NQ RASN This is a pivot in response to COVID-19 and Umbrella’s usual studio residency program. AHAIR provides opportunities for North Queensland visual artists who have lost income and opportunities as a result of the coronavirus.
