Warmth
Inspired by the people and places of North Queensland.
Commission for NQ Stadium. Laser cut stainless steel & paint. 200 x 400cm.

Sunshine, enthusiasm, bright, cheerful, kindness, affection and friendliness, all refer to warmth and the general welcoming attitude of North Queensland and its people.  Even after devastation in the north, we have witnessed people coming together in a warm and embracing way to help each other out.  The wrap around, circular form of the sculpture aims to capture and portray that embrace and continual warmth of North Queenslanders.  The vibrant red on the reverse side represents the warm colour of the land we all share.

My fictitious river connects all of North Queensland.  Place and people have always been intertwined for thousands of years, people have always settled or gathered around creeks and rivers. Included are both English and their recognised Indigenous clan boundaries from North Queensland.
